Firewood Alert: Because of the seriousness of a potential infestation from the Emerald Ash Borer, we are requesting that no firewood be brought into South Carolina State Parks from outside of the state.

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a destructive invasive exotic beetle that feeds on ash trees. Park campgrounds and picnic areas are the most likely areas for EAB introduction into South Carolina. We appreciate your help in protecting the natural resources of South Carolina and our State Park System.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all Villas and at the Park Visitor CenterDreher Island State Recreation Area is located on Lake Murray just 30 miles northwest of Columbia the capital of South Carolina. During the 1940's the area was used for training exercises by the Army Air Corps. Today the park consist of three islands linked to the mainland by a causeway and two bridges. Its 348 acres and 12 miles of shoreline make it an ideal place for recreation.

Alerts and Important Information
Dreher Island provides access to a variety of recreational activites including picnicing, boating, shoreline fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Many facilities are available to assits visitors with partaking in these activities, including trails, playgrounds, picnic shelters, campsites, villas, boat ramps, tackle shop, marina and a community building. Please contact the park to reserve ADA (Disabled Access) Standard and Full Service sites.

From I-26: Take exit 91 (Chapin exit- Hwy. 48) to Chapin. Turn rt on Hwy 76 for 1/8 mile, then turn left onto St. Peter's Church Rd (Hwy. 29) for 4 mi. Turn left onto Dreher Island Rd (Hwy 231) for approximately 3 mi. Then turn onto State Park Rd for 2 mi. to the park entrance. There are (brown) state park roadsigns that will direct the way from Interstate-26
